SEASON 1
MASTERS OF FLORENCE
Florence, 1429.
Giovanni de’ Medici, thanks to a contract stipulated with the Papacy twenty years before, has transformed his family bank into an unprecedented economic force. But then, Giovanni is mysteriously murdered, and his sons, Cosimo and Lorenzo, are forced to face a range of enemies plotting to oust the Medici from power.
First in line is Rinaldo Albizzi, head of the faction of nobles, who stands opposed not only to the rise of the middle class, favored by the Medici, but also to Cosimo’s vision for the city, including his patronage of magnificent works of art and architecture by such great artists as Donatello and Brunelleschi.
Also in the Medici family keeping the peace is not an easy task. Lorenzo and Cosimo are nearly opposite in temperament, and Cosimo’s marriage to Contessina de Bardi – formed as a political alliance but then matured into a formidable partnership – will be severely strained during his exile in Venice.
It is there that Cosimo takes up with Maddalena, a beautiful slave who becomes his mistress and the mother of his illegitimate son.
In the meantime, the mystery of who killed Giovanni continues to lurk behind the scenes, and a new arch-enemy appears on the horizon in the person of the rival banker Pazzi. All the while, the onerous guilt of the compromises made and the evil done for the good of the family weighs heavily on Cosimo’s soul.
He must decide how far he is willing to go to preserve his vision of Florence – a vision we now know as the Renaissance.

SEASON 2
THE MAGNIFICENT
In 1470, Piero and Lucrezia are the heads of the family.
The Medici family’s power has now been consolidated over time, but an attempt on Piero’s life reveals years of poor bank management and his first-born son Lorenzo is called to take his father’s place sooner than planned.
Despite Lorenzo’s long-term affair with a married woman, Lucrezia Donati, he agrees to marry a noble woman from Rome, Clarice Orsini.
As the new head of the family, he is also responsible for the destinies of his brother Giuliano and his sister Bianca, while his friendship with Sandro Botticelli gives life to some of the finest masterpieces of the Renaissance.
His dream for Florence to be at peace and culturally alive is challenged by the contrast with Pope Sixtus and bring Florence to one of the bloodiest moments of its history-the Pazzi conspiracy.

SEASON 3
THE BEAUTY AND THE POWER
Just a few months after the Conspiracy that cost his brother’s life and nearly his own, LORENZO is thirsting for revenge.
The Medici are more powerful than ever, but war with POPE SIXTUS IV is looming, and COUNT RIARIO is trying every way to force it. As the finances of the Medici Bank become more and more precarious, the political situation constrains Lorenzo to abandon the idealistic man he once was. As a result, his relationship with his wife CLARICE suffers, and it will be tested in the fire of passion when the Magnificent reconnects with a former acquaintance, the brilliant and beautiful IPPOLITA SFORZA.
Soon after, the entire Medici family will be jolted again by the discovery of the existence of GIULIO, the young son of the assassinated Giuliano. Meanwhile, Lorenzo will expand his activities as patron of the arts, discovering up-andcoming young geniuses like LEONARDO DA VINCI and MICHELANGELO.
Yet, in styling himself increasingly as Prince and champion of the Renaissance, he will find himself clashing more and more with the rising discontent of the people, who find their inspiration in the figure of one extraordinary preacher: GIROLAMO SAVONAROLA.
